Peristyle of the Muses

At the Achilleion, one can meander through the resplendent Peristyle of the Muses, a small, impeccably manicured garden overlooked by Ionic columns, in front of which stand five mythology-inspired statues. Starting from the left (while facing the palace) is the lyre-holding statue of Apollo Musagetes, followed by those of the three Graces: the goddesses Euphrosyne (Mirth), Thalia (Good Cheer) and Aglaia (Splendor). Finally, next to the Graces is a statue of a woman, dressed in humble attire and holding a book, who represents Christian philosophy.
