“Dimosaris came rushing down the other day / Roaring, as if spoiling for a fight.” This is how Aristotelis Valaoritis, poet of the Heptanese School, described the Dimosaris, creating a vivid image of just how forceful the river can be. Hidden in a gorge, not far from the cosmopolitan village of Nydri, the splendid 15-meter-high waterfall has water all-year round, providing a great alternative to swimming in the sea.
It is reached by a footpath beginning at a lovely wooden pavilion that serves as a refreshment bar in the shade of tall plane trees, before gradually ascending the beautiful shady gorge, over small bridges, through impressive narrow passes right next to the running water, and ending at the waterfall 15-20 minutes later. Although the volume of water is obviously smaller in summer, the plunge pool is always full and perfect for a cool, refreshing dip.
